Difficile de pratiquer des séances photo à l’extérieur en cet été sur Paris où le temps est très variable. Laura m’a contacté sur ModelMayhem jeudi pour une séance qui s’est faite dimanche. Etant en août, bon nombre de personnes ont quitté la capitale d’où la petite équipe réduite sur ce shooting : Laura, Willy qui nous a grandement aidé ainsi que moi.
This summer in Paris it is really difficult to have a chance for an outdoors shooting due to bad weather. Laura contacted me on ModelMayhem last thursday for a shooting on sunday. As we are in August, almost everyone left the capital which makes it quite impossible to have a whole team with a make up artist, hair stylist, stylist… that explains our reduced team : Laura, Willy who helped us a lot and myself.

La séance photo a début vers 18h30 afin d’avoir la meilleure lumière possible, ie sans lumière directe du soleil. Ce jour là les nuages nous ont apporté une lumière diffuse, parfaite pour les photos. Je ne me suis pas du tout servi du réflecteur.
The shooting started at about 6:30PM in order to get the best light possible, ie without direct sunlight. On that day it was a bit cloudy which was perfect to have a diffuse light, preventing me from using a reflector.
Laura voulait du noir et blanc. J’ai d’abord travaillé la photo en couleurs avant de la passer en noir et blanc en travaillant sur les contrastes, le vignettage… Au final, ce genre de photo dégage beaucoup plus je trouve.
Laura wanted some black and white. I first worked on the colored version of the photo before adjusting the contrast, vignetting etc. once transformed in black and white. I must admit, such a photo emanates much more.
1/200s – f/4.5 – 200 ISO – Yongnuo YN560 – Lightroom + Photoshop
Ensuite j’ai sorti le flash déporté avec un parapluie en shoot-through. L’heure commençait à devenir très intéressante car le ciel s’assombrissait. En fonction de l’ouverture du diaphragme, il était possible de jouer sur l’exposition du fond, ie des nuages. Je n’ai pas d’exemples à proposer, mais je n’ai absolument pas joué avec la puissance du flash.
Then, I chose to shoot with a deported triggered flash with an umbrella (shoot-through). The end of the day was close, the sky was getting darker which was exactly what I was waiting for. According to your aperture, you can totally play with the exposure of the background, the sky in my case. I didn’t have to change any setting on the flash for that.

Cette photo est un peu un coup de chance car les traits sont naturels. Il pleuvait beaucoup, l’eau ruisselait sur mon boitier et objectif (50mm ici) et je n’arrivais pas à faire le focus et encore moins à voir simplement. Avec mon doigt j’ai essuyé et ça a laissé ce genre de trace rendant la photo vraiment artistique, j’aime beaucoup.
This photo is a lucky break as the colored lines are all natural. It was raining cats and dogs, water was dripping on my camera and lens (50mm here) and I couldn’t make the focus or even see anything ! With my finger I tried to clean a bit that’s how I got that artistic result that I really like.
J’ai vraiment beaucoup aimé ce shooting, au final, même sans équipe on a réussi à faire quelque chose de satisfaisant. Au passage, Laura est Lituanienne, c’est la raison pour laquelle je poste mon premier billet français/anglais 🙂
I really liked this shooting. Eventually, even without having a whole team we have been able to get good results. By the way, Laura comes from Lithuania that’s why I’m writing my first French/English post 😉 Thanks again Laura, you were amazing.
